Rustic three legged stool workshop

Sunday 4th June 2017 will be a day to look back on as the first of, hopefully, many workshops making some great items using traditional green woodworking techniques.

Helen and Dinesh both signed up on the day long course and were delighted at the end of the day to take away a lovely functional piece of craft furniture that will give them many years of use and pleasure.

The day started with tea, coffee and a croissant before we set about on the task in hand. We had to tear ourselves away for a wonderful lunch, lovingly prepared by Elsa and Lynda.

The day had been structured so there was plenty of time to savour the moment and give time for people to work at their own pace. It’s very important to give time to allow people to get use to holding and working with a material that they are not familiar with, along with holding and using an extremely sharp axe or knife.

It was lovely to see the first tentative slightly awkward blows and cuts with the axe and knife replaced with confident grips of the tools and chips of wood flying towards the end of the day.

All my years of experience hadn’t gone to waste and I was able to provide a few simple jigs, guides, to help with the drilling out of the seat with the hand held auger and the shaping of the legs so as to fit onto the seat nice and snug.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day and as it was my first course complimentary spoons were handed out to everyone involved but the most satisfying part was to see Dinesh and Helen take away two lovely stools.

If you would like to make yourself one of these lovely stools then please look at my workshops and book yourself a place on the next course. Or you could buy a course as a present for a loved one.
